Lego considers a ‘Golden Girls’ collection

TORONTO — Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia always seemed to click on The Golden Girls so it’s only fitting they could soon be put together again in Lego form.

The Danish toy company is gauging interest in a Golden Girls set on its Lego Ideas site.

The submission comes from a fan of the series who recreated the Golden Girls set and several memorable scenes using only Lego pieces.

In addition to tiny representations of the four titular characters, the proposed Lego set includes Dorothy’s ex-husband Stan. The show’s kitchen and wicker-furnished living room have been painstakingly reproduced — and there’s even a Lego cheesecake.

The creator, identified only as “lostsleep,” promises to add a Lego lanai.

If the prototype reaches 10,000 supporters, it advances to a review phase in which it will be evaluated for playability and safety. If approved — and assuming Lego can secure a licensing deal — the set could end up on store shelves.

Among the scenes recreated from the series, which ran from 1985 to 1992 (and currently airs in Canada on Deja View), are Dorothy’s appearance on the Grab That Dough game show and Dorothy and Sophia performing “I Got You Babe” while dressed as Sony and Cher.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

There’s also the scene in which Rose shoots the vase next to the door as Blanche returns home with a date and the moment when Rose retrieved her teddy bear from a nasty Sunshine Cadet.

The pitch from “lostsleep” is not the only Golden Girls set Lego is considering. In 2013, a user named “Misterr” proposed a similar collection. Last year, “Dwayneburgess” created a Lego replica of the Golden Girls house.

The Golden Girls starred Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty. All but White are deceased, as are Herb Edelman (Stan), Harold Gould (Miles) and Sid Melton (Sal).
