TORONTO – Police in Santa Cruz, California are hoping the public can help identify a man dressed as a woman, accused of robbing a bank, that they’ve dubbed the “Mrs. Doubtfire bank robber.”
But he’s not accused of a “run-by fruiting” – police say the man walked into a US Bank location in Santa Cruz on Friday wearing a long blonde wig, a gold necklace and a black shirt over a pink sweater, while holding a purse.
He handed a bank teller a note demanding money before leaving, police said.
Nearly an hour before the robbery, he was seen at another bank nearby. Police say employees at a Rabo Bank saw the same man acting suspiciously and approached him. Police say he might have been “casing the bank” but left after being spoken to by employees.
“When the bank employees contacted the suspect they were surprised to see that although the suspect was dressed like a female, the suspect was actually a male. Hence the title, the Mrs. Doubtfire bank robbery,” according to a police press release.
Bank security cameras caught clear still photos of the man when he entered and left the bank and are hoping someone can identify him.
Police say the man is between 25 and 35 years old, nearly 170 pounds and 5-5.
