SASKATOON – The president of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) has his job back. A judge has ruled that Colin Keess was wrongfully removed from his position.

Keess was suspended in 2014 by the STF’s executive committee. Keess said he was informed on June 23 he had been stripped of his authority after a non-confidence vote on June 19.

On Aug. 1, 2014, another motion was passed restricting Keess from performing any of the duties or responsibilities of his role.

Keess took the STF to court over the motions.

Last week, a Court of Queen’s Bench judge ruled the STF executive did not have the authority to pass the Aug. 1 motion that prevented Keess from acting as president.

The judge also found there was nothing in the June 19 non-confidence motion that would lead the court to intervene or quash it.

An official spokesperson for the STF says they will fully comply with the judge’s decision and will undertake a review of their governance and decision-making process.

Keess has been elected as president three times by the province’s 12,000 teachers. He was back on the job on Monday.
