KELOWNA – A man who robbed a Kelowna bank has admitted his crime and been sent to jail.
Last June, a man entered the CIBC branch on Bernard Avenue, demanded money from a teller without showing a weapon, and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police arrested Troy Thomas Gold after security camera images of the robber were published by local media.
After pleading guilty to one count of robbery, Gold was handed a two year jail sentence followed by two years probation.
He was also banned for life from possessing firearms, ordered to submit a DNA sample, and fined $200 in a Victim Surcharge fee.
In August 2001, Gold stabbed a man to death on a Penticton beach in a random and unprovoked attack.
After pleading guilty to murder, Gold was granted a new trial, where he admitted to the less serious offense of manslaughter.
He was sentenced to eight years imprisonment with the judge saying the killing “was much closer to murder than accidental homicide. The random nature of the violence is particularly frightening.”
