CALGARY – Fire crews battled a residential blaze at an acreage subdivision near CrossIron Mills, southeast of Airdrie Sunday night.
Fire Chief Randy Smith says Rocky View Fire received several reports of a fire around 4:30 p.m.
Fire crews immediately saw the black smoke when they left the fire house nearby.
Fortunately the homeowners were not home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
“Waters always an issue out here, so we were using a tanker shuttle. When we get called for a home totally involved in fire, it really is a forgone conclusion for the home. Our concern was for the residents around here.that it would spread to another home,” Smith said.
“It took a while, the fire was really deep seeded in the home.”
Fire crews from multiple areas came out to hep battle the blaze.
The fire was put out by the early evening but fire crews continued to put out hot spots to cool the rest of what was left of the home.
No word yet on the cause of the fire.
One witness said that by 5:30 p.m. the house was almost completely burnt to the ground.
