McLure Cafe north of Kamloops destroyed by fire

WATCH: The only restaurant in a small town in the interior has gone up in flames. Jordan Armstrong reports.

A popular cafe in McLure, B.C. was destroyed by fire Saturday night.

Residents of the small community north of Kamloops are still in shock as the popular McLure Cafe and Restaurant on Hwy. 5 burned to the ground. Witnesses say they heard explosions at around 9:30 p.m. and the restaurant, which has been part of the community of decades, went up in flames very quickly.

Coincidentally, the hillside behind the restaurant is where the McLure fire began in 2003, sparking one of the most destructive fires in B.C.’s history, with over 80 structures eventually being destroyed.

The fire is believed to have started in the back of the building and spread to another structure on the property, which was also gutted. No injuries have been reported.
