TORONTO – The dashboard camera of an Oklahoma school bus captured the terrifying moment a fast-moving SUV loses control coming from the opposite direction – and crashes into the bus head-on.

The incident happened early Monday morning in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A school bus carrying 36 seventh and eighth graders en route to the Seventh Grade Academy and McLain Junior High was travelling north near 42nd Street North and North Lewis.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The children are heard screaming as an SUV traveling the opposite direction loses control, crosses the centre median, and slams directly into the bus.

“Is everyone ok?” the bus driver is heard yelling moments after the collision.

“There was not a whole lot they can do with a head-on collision like this, but I think the driver did the best they could,” Tulsa Public Schools spokesperson Chris Payne told KJRH News in Oklahoma.

“And you know, we just want to make sure the kids are taken care of and the parents kept informed.”

At least six children were transported to a local hospital along with the driver of the SUV. Police are still investigating and are not certain if intoxication or illness played a role in the crash.
