Faculty loses confidence in Lethbridge College President

Lethbridge College President Paula Burns takes questions from media while under scrutiny from the Faculty Association. Global News

LETHBRIDGE – The President of Lethbridge College is under fire from the school’s Faculty Association.

In a release Thursday night, the Lethbridge College Faculty Association says members have shown “an overwhelming lack of confidence” in President Paula Burns, Vice-President Academics Stuart Cullum and the strategic plan known as “The Future State.”

In the release LCFA President Gerri Joose stated, “the vote was not about the Faculty Association’s relationship with the Lethbridge College administration. Faculty are ultimately concerned about what is in the best interest of our learners.”

However, neither Burns nor Cullum face any type of official action for losing support in the vote. When asked earlier in the day if she would resign if the vote went against her, Burns was emphatic with her answer.

“No. Not at all,” said Burns Thursday afternoon.

Despite not having the support of the faculty, Burns believe she can still work with them to address the institution’s challenges.

“I wouldn’t say there hasn’t been a good relationship. There has been a good relationship. We just need to continue to build it and strengthen it as we embrace change in the institution,” said Burns.
