UPDATE: Daniel Paul charged with second-degree murder

Daniel Paul, who was wanted in connection of the murder of his girlfriend a month ago, has been reportedly arrested by Vancouver Police.

UPDATE (July 8, 2015): Vancouver police say a charge of second-degree murder has been approved and laid against Daniel Paul in connection with the death of Crystal Rose Paul.

A Vancouver man believed to be connected with the violent murder of a woman in March is in police custody after a month-long hunt.

Daniel Alphonse Paul is the prime suspect in the murder of his girlfriend Crystal “Rosie” Paul, a 36-year-old mother of five girls who was found dead on March 3 in the basement suite of a home on East 22nd Avenue and Main Street.

VPD spokesperson Randy Fincham says 42-year-old Paul was arrested without incident shortly after 7 p.m. last night.

Two officers spotted him riding a bicycle near West Broadway and Yukon Street.

Fincham says thousands of officers from VPD, every police force in the Lower Mainland, Canada and even the United States were on the lookout for Paul.

Over the past month, officers searched for him in Chilliwack, Vancouver, Squamish and the U.S.

A reward up to $10,000 had been offered in hopes of locating Paul, who has a violent past and a history of offences against women.

Investigators are now looking to determine where Paul spent this past month.

They say it is possible he was living locally, but do not believe he was being assisted by anybody.

Fincham says they believe Paul did not feel comfortable hiding any longer and was found by the police.

“In a case like this, you can run, but you can’t hide. Eventually we will find you,” he says.

Meanwhile, officers are working closely with the family.

“Everybody’s extremely happy,” says Howard Paul, Rosie’s uncle. He says a detective on the case called him Wednesday to say officers arrested Paul.

“He’s off the streets. People can rest easy tonight.”

Vancouver police will now be putting a case forward to Crown Council for charges to be laid.
