Quick response to residential fire in Kelowna

KELOWNA — A Kelowna resident escaped without injury on Wednesday after their house caught on fire. Crews responded to the scene of the blaze in the Glenmore area Wednesday afternoon. Neighbors say they could see and smell the smoke.

“We just saw a big hole in the roof like there is right there,” witness Hartage Sidhu told Global News as he pointed to the burning structure.

The Kelowna Fire Department says it appears the fire sparked near a shed, but spread to the house. Crews quickly contained the flames but the shed and home sustained damage. The Deputy Chief says there was one person inside the home who discovered the fire and called 9-1-1. No word yet on what caused the fire.

“I think it might have been a gas fire because we could smell it,” says Sidhu.

The extent of damage to the home and shed have yet to be determined. The investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing.
