TORONTO — Two things set Francesco Yates apart from other singers his age — his angelic voice and his mop of curls.

The world is paying attention to both.

The 18-year-old Toronto native crafted his forthcoming debut album with the help of super-producers like Robin Hannibal and Pharrell Williams.

But, it hasn’t been overnight success for Yates. Appearing on Global’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, he said he’s been interested in music since he was 11.

At a music camp, “I just remember performing live and falling in love with it,” he recalled. “That was it for me.”

His latest single is “Better to be Loved,” a catchy song he co-wrote in the middle of the night.

“We were just in the spirit of the ’70s and disco and Michael Jackson and all that,” explained Yates, “and we just thought there was a certain positivity about saying that.”
