Richmond woman arrested after allegedly attacking attendant on flight to YVR

WATCH: A passenger on board a WestJet flight from Toronto was greeted by police when the plane landed at YVR today. Jeremy Hunka reports.

A Richmond woman was arrested over an incident that took place on a flight from Toronto to Vancouver on Sunday.
The Richmond woman has since been released on pending charges and a promise to appear in court.
“There are some allegations where she had allegedly assaulted one of the flight crew,” says Richmond RCMP A/Cpl. Dennis Hwang . “Richmond RCMP take air travel safety extremely seriously.”
Fellow passengers on WestJet Flight 701 say the woman first threw a sandwich and when she was confronted by a flight attendant, things escalated quickly.
“A women up front was very demanding, and the next thing I knew, there was a sandwich that was thrown backwards,” said passenger Darlene Jerome.

“The stewardess came up and touched her gently, and said you can’t be doing that. The lady started yelling at her, and said ‘you touching me, I’m going to charge you with sexual assault.'”

Jerome alleges the woman then punched the flight attendant on the chin.

“The flight attendant walked away then. It took a little while, but flight marshals went to the phone, came up and took her from the front. They escorted her to the back of the plane,” said Jerome.

When the flight landed at YVR, RCMP boarded the plane and arrested the woman.

“We can confirm that we had an incident on board one of our flights involving an unruly guest who was arrested by RCMP after striking a crew member,” said a spokesperson with West Jet.

“The matter is before the courts, we will not be making any further comments.”
