The Independent Investigations Office of BC has deployed investigators to the scene of a fatal police-involved shooting in Burnaby following a stabbing that left one man dead.

Burnaby RCMP say they responded to a report of a double stabbing near Willard St. and 14th Ave. just before 6 a.m. Sunday morning. Upon arrival, officers came across an alleged suspect and shots were fired.

The IIO reports the alleged suspect was transported to hospital and has since died from his injuries.

The victim of the stabbing did not survive.

Neighbours told Global News there was often unusual activity at the house.

The IIO BC, which handles cases where members of the public suffer injuries in incidents with police, confirms they have sent investigators to the scene. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is also involved.
