NIPAWIN, Sask. – The Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation after a pilotless plane crashed in Nipawin, Sask. Thursday afternoon. Mounties called to the airport just before 6 p.m. found the plane in a field.

According to the police report, the pilot of the two-seater plane attempted to “prop start” the plane. The engine started and the plane gained enough speed to become airborne.

It got to about 10 metres off the ground before crashing into the nearby field. Police say there was visible damage to the small plane but no injuries.
