TORONTO – With its new fall-winter collection, Mackage set out to prove that staying cozy in the cooler months shouldn’t require sacrificing style.

“One of our goals was to make fashionable coats but also making sure that (they’re) going to keep us warm — especially with the winters that we’re getting here,” said co-creative director Eran Elfassy.

The Montreal-based brand drew inspiration from the Arctic landscape with its soft palette of cool ash, blue-grey and off-white punctuated with bold splashes of amber and bordeaux.

Elfassy said there has been high demand in the label’s European market for lighter-weight down, translating into the chic after-ski looks like bomber jackets paired with high-waisted snowpants.

The label spanned the spectrum of outerwear with parkas, wool coats, capes and maxi-length jackets among the vast selection of styles showcased at World MasterCard Fashion Week on Wednesday.

Fringe featured prominently as well, with the dangling threads of fabric adding dramatic embellishments to leather moto jackets, scarves and belts.

“I think there’s a return to glam,” said Mackage co-creative director Elisa Dahan.

“Fringe always makes you feel glamorous.

“There’s a big return to the ’70s, so it’s a little detail that adds a lot of value to a garment.”
