Driver trapped when car crashes into Auburn Bay home

WATCH ABOVE: One man was trapped inside an SUV that crashed into an Auburn Bay home.

CALGARY – The Calgary Fire Department was called to the southeast community of Auburn Bay on Thursday after a car crashed into a house.

The SUV became lodged in the garage of the home, located in the 200 block of Auburn Bay Boulevard S.E., after it slammed into the two-storey house around 4 a.m.

Fire crews say the male driver was trapped inside the vehicle when they arrived, but they were able to free him. He was conscious when transported to hospital.

Before freeing the driver, firefighters first had to stabilize the house as a precautionary measure, believing the home’s structural integrity was compromised.

Police say one person in the home at the time of crash was unharmed.

The fire department says it appears the car slammed into the home while travelling at a significant speed.

The homeowner and driver are unknown to each other.
