TORONTO – Melissa Nepton served up her signature sporty chic in her latest laidback looks for fall and winter.

The Montreal-based womenswear designer marked a milestone as Nepton celebrated five years since the launch of her eponymous label.

With two babies at home, Nepton has had much-needed family support on and away from the runway.

Her twin sister, Natasha, who is also a designer, has been working with the team to create the new collection, which was inspired by the “romantic warrior.”

“It’s always feminine and very natural,” Melissa said backstage following the runway show at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week on Tuesday.

“We’re trying to bring contrast every season between femininity and modernism,” added Natasha, with the duo also describing the line as “hippie modern.”

There was a fresh feel to the ’70s inspired styles, featuring basic black with geometrical jacquards alongside some playful animal prints.

The line showcased oversized pant cuffs and jumpsuits, voluminous coats and high-waisted shorts along with vintage-style track suits, a relaxed tie-front jacket and handkerchief skirt drenched in soft pastels.

The collection frequently teamed seemingly duelling fabrics within one design, with leather panelling on leggings and shaggy fur trim adorning sheer tops.
