Death of Vernon longboarder ruled accidental

VERNON – The death of a teenage longboarder in Vernon last summer has been deemed an accident.

Christopher Mitchell, 17, was killed July 13, 2014 when he collided with a vehicle near 39th St. and Okanagan Ave while longboarding.

A coroner’s report says Mitchell wasn’t wearing a helmet or protective clothing.

A toxicology test revealed the teen had recently used cannabis.

The coroner didn’t make any recommendations.
