It was a come from behind win for Penticton triathlete Jeff Symonds, who came first in the Ironman Asia-Pacific World Championship, held in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday.

Symonds was outside the top ten after the 3.8 km swim and 180 km cycle. Roughly 12 minutes off the lead entering the marathon run, he made up all that ground and then some, crossing the finish line in eight hours, four minutes and 29 seconds.

He finished three and a half minutes in front of the second-place finisher.

He tweeted this shortly after the win:

Symonds now has his eyes set on the Ironman World Championships, which take place in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii this October.
