CALGARY – A Sundre woman was sentenced Friday to four years behind bars for ordering her two pit bulls to attack a 26-year-old woman in her home in August 2012.

Rita Phillips was found guilty last year of aggravated assault and criminal negligence.

The victim, 26-year-old Deanna Wolfe,  had been staying at Phillip’s home along with her boyfriend, when she was mauled.

RCMP officers who responded shot and killed one of the pit bulls. Wolfe suffered serious injuries which required stitches and skin grafts..

Phillips has been in custody since her arrest just over a year and a half ago, and has 27 months remaining in her sentence.  A judge Friday also prohibited her from owning weapons for 10 years.

The maximum sentence Phillips could have received was 14 years in prison. The Crown was seeking a seven year sentence.
