‘Fresh Prince’ prank calls C-SPAN, recites theme song

TORONTO – Now, this is the story all about how a man’s call to C-SPAN got a little flipped-turned upside down after he was cut off for reciting the lyrics to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

A man, who presumably lives with his aunty and uncle, called into the network Wednesday morning during a segment on Iran nuclear negotiations.

The man, who identified himself as Jack Strickland, began to quote the theme song from the ’90s sitcom.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“I just want to make it clear first of all I’m calling from Bel-Air, California,” Strickland said. “But I am originally from Philadelphia, specifically West Philadelphia.”

See where this going?

“I was actually discussing this issue with a friend of mine when I was in Philly, it occurred on a basketball court,” the caller said. “At some point during the conversation, a couple of guys who were up to no good essentially started causing trouble in my neighbourhood.”

If you’re still reading this, you’re probably singing along by now.

“I got in one little fight and my mom got scared, and said ‘you’re moving in with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air,’” the caller continued.

Someone at C-SPAN caught on to the prankster and cut the caller off, perhaps telling him: “yo homes, smell you later.”
