The flames broke out late last night, gutting a home in the Brookswood neighbourhood.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Firefighters were called to the home near 44th Avenue and 208A Street just after 10 o’clock last night.

No one was inside at the time and it appears there are no injuries.

Langley Township Fire Department and RCMP say the fire was deliberately set.

Investigators say they have learned of a domestic dispute that began earlier in the afternoon between a father and his son at the home.

A passer-by witnessed a suspect as he was lighting the fire and tried to stop him. The fire was reported a short time later.

At this point, only minimal descriptors of the suspect are available – police say he was wearing a red top and blue jeans.

The 35-year-old son is a person of interest in this investigation and was not in the home during the fire.

Police say the basement tenant was not home at the time of the fire.

Anyone with information is asked to call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 or CrimeStoppers.
