OTTAWA – Several products containing garlic powder are being recalled due to possible salmonella contamination.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says products, sold under the Simply Organic and Frontier brand names, were sold nationally and through Internet sales.
The agency says the Canadian recall was triggered by a recall in the United States by Frontier Co-op of Norway, Iowa.
The CFIA says its investigation may lead to the recall of other products. There have been no reported illnesses linked to the affected products.
The Simply Organic seasonings included in the recall include:
- Vegetarian chili
- Spicy chili
- Ranch dip mix
- Ranch dressing mix
- French onion dip mix
- Guacamole dip mix
- Creamy dill dip mix
- Fajita seasoning
- Sweet basil pesto mix
- Vegetarian brown gravy mix
- Fish taco seasoning
- Classic caesar dressing mix
Affected Frontier products include powdered garlic, low sodium broth powder vegetable flavoured, vegetarian broth powder no-chicken and onion soup and dip mix.
Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can cause illness, particularly in young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
