Power outage delays flights at Calgary airport

CALGARY – The Calgary International Airport experienced a power outage on Monday which delayed some flights and impacted several services.

The power went off at about 10 a.m., according to Jody Moseley with the Calgary Airport Authority.

Backup generators kicked in immediately, powering essential systems like the control tower.

“All of our essential services are taken care of with that emergency power,” explained Moseley. “That does mean, however, things that aren’t essential like general lighting does not come back on.”

Services like check-in counters and baggage terminals were temporarily unavailable.

“Once we get power back on, everybody needs to reboot their systems individually,” added Moseley. “Airlines were definitely impacted.”

The outage lasted about 40 minutes.
