CALGARY – Police say both alcohol and speed are considered factors in a multi-car crash on Sunday that sent three people to hospital.
Emergency crews were called to 52nd Street and 8th Avenue S.E. around 9 p.m.
Police say a northbound Chevrolet Astro van failed to stop at a red light at 52nd Street S.E. and struck a white Ford F-150 that was travelling westbound through the intersection.
The Ford F-150 then hit a southbound Chevrolet Cobalt, which was stopped at the intersection.
Two people involved in the crash needed to be extricated from their vehicles by the Calgary Fire Department.
The driver of the Ford F-150, a 61-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Astro van, a 35-year-old man, was transported to hospital with minor injuries. His 36-year-old passenger also suffered minor injuries.
The 71-year-old driver of the Cobalt was checked over by paramedics, and later released.
The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating and is asking for anyone that may have witnessed the collision to contact Constable Kody Greene at 403-567-4000.
