16-year-old charged in Ring Road fatal crash

REGINA – A 16-year-old boy has been charged following a fatal crash on Ring Road just south of the McDonald Street exit on Friday afternoon.

Saeed Ahmad Warraich, 48, was driving along Ring Road just after 4:00 p.m. when another vehicle crossed the ditch and hit his car head-on, killing him instantly.

The other passenger in the vehicle, Saeed’s father-in-law, remains in hospital in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Police say a vehicle heading eastbound had four people on-board and crossed the ditch hitting into the westbound vehicle. Police say the passenger of the eastbound vehicle remains in hospital with serious injuries.

The 16-year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle is facing six charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, two charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, criminal negligence causing death, and two charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The driver’s name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He’ll appear in court on April 29.
