38 passengers stuck in Grouse Mountain gondola for hours

WATCH: Some scary moments today for a number of visitors at Grouse Mountain this afternoon. Catherine Urquhart reports.

After over three hours stuck dangling above the trees on Grouse Mountain, the 38 people stuck on the Red Super Sky Ride gondola were immediately offered water when they finally reached the top.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Not surprisingly, many instead rushed straight to the nearest washroom.

The gondola left at 1:20 p.m., but didn’t arrive until 4:50 p.m.

“It was a computer glitch,” said Jacqueline Blackwell with Grouse Mountain.

“At that point, while they were still working to identify the problem, the team moved it manually towards each station.”

Global News spoke to several passengers who were stuck once they were on solid ground, but none seemed too annoyed with the delay – perhaps because the ski resort gave everyone affected a full refund and a $50 gift card and admission for future use.
