Abbotsford party rental company abruptly closes; apologizes to clients

An Abbotsford party rental business that shut down suddenly without warning — throwing the wedding plans of several couples into turmoil — is apologizing to its customers.

In an email from the president of Classic Party Rentals to their clients, which was obtained by Global News, Ron Wiebe says after 13 years “we were forced to cease operations; being unable to meet our many vital financial obligations including rent and payroll.”

He went on to say, “I bring my sincerest apologies to our many loyal clients and many exceptional staff, to whom this came as a great shock.”

Yesterday the company still had their inventory inside its building, but today all its assets were made available for viewing and will eventually be sold.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Jessica Kruk was one of Classic Party Rentals’ clients.

She’s already spent $3,600 renting tent, tables, linens and chairs for her upcoming wedding. Kruk learned about the abrupt closure two days ago and now, she’s left with trying to find another business to rent those items.

“Right now, we’re not really sure if we’re ever [going to] see that money again,” Kruk says.

But the community is rallying to help Kruk and others like Kim Dorion and her fiance Jason Huber.

The Chilliwack couple, who like Kruk, were forced to re-organize their wedding have had offers of help pouring in since they took their story to Global News yesterday.

“West Coast Chiavari Chairs, they have supplied us with 120 chairs with cushions,” Huber says. “Lots of places are giving discounts to everyone. Helping out the best they can. It’s pretty awesome.”

The couple says there are a few things they still have to find, like a tent, but they’re optimistic it will happen so their wedding will not have to be postponed.
