GODERICH, Ont. – A 70-year-old man charged in a fatal shooting near Clinton, Ont., has re-hired a lawyer despite earlier telling court he wanted to represent himself.

Boris Panovski told court last month in Goderich, Ont., that he did not want to waste money on a lawyer because he wasn’t happy with the one he had and didn’t want legal aid.

Panovski is charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in the death of Don Frigo and the wounding of Frigo’s wife Eva Willer at the Hullett Wildlife Conservation Area last September.

The Toronto man told court through a Macedonian interpreter in late February that he was not guilty and was prepared to represent himself.

The judge strongly recommended at that time that he get a lawyer to help him.
