MONTREAL – UPAC, the anti-corruption squad, made six early morning arrests on Wednesday.
The arrests were in connection to an alleged fraud and breach of trust case in the awarding of technology contracts to Revenu Quebec.
The contracts were worth $24 million.
“Two Revenu Quebec officials would have passed privileged information to a consortium consisting of two IT suppliers, which are EBR and IBM,” explained Robert Lafreniere, a UPAC Commissioner.
“The purpose to benefit the consortium is obtaining a public contract.”
Emplyoees from Revenu Quebec, as well as from IBM and Informatique EBR were arrested in their homes at 7 a.m. in the Quebec City region and the north and south shores of Montreal.
Around 50 police officers were involved.
There are still two outstanding warrants.
