VANCOUVER – An 11-year-old boy is being praised by the Nanaimo RCMP for turning in a large sum of money that he found on the street.

The young boy was walking home when he found the money. He then took it straight to his mom and she called the Nanaimo RCMP.

Police say when the boy and his mom turned over the money to them they did not know if the rightful owner does not come forward, the money will be turned over to them.

To date, Mounties have not received a report about the money being lost or stolen, but they are also not releasing any details about where the money was found at this time. If you think you are missing a “large sum” of money, contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345, with full details of the date, time of the loss/theft, the amount, the denominations, and how the cash was stored.
