Sask. Mounties use snowmobiles to track down cigarette thief

ITUNA, Sask. – Saskatchewan Mounties used a unique way to capture their man. Officers took to their snowmobiles to track down an alleged cigarette thief on Monday.

Mounties were alerted that six cartons of smokes had been stolen from an Ituna business. The suspect fled on foot into a nearby field.

Members from the Melville/Ituna detachment decided to utilize their snowmobile skills to chase the thief. They tracked the man across a field for approximately six kilometres before he was found and arrested.

Mounties say although it was warm at the time, the suspect was cold and exhausted by the end of the chase.

Edward William Pelletier, 35, who is from the Star Blanket First Nation has been charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of an undertaking. He is being held in custody until an appearance in Melville provincial court on March 25.
