BEIJING – Beijing police detained movie actor Wang Xuebing on a suspected drug offence, adding to a number of celebrities who have been caught in anti-drug actions, Chinese state media reported late Tuesday.

The official Xinhua News Agency said the star of the Golden Bear award-winning film “Black Coal, Thin Ice” was detained along with another person Monday. The report didn’t specify the nature of the offence. Xinhua said Wang was a Chinese anti-drug ambassador in 2006.

Xinhua said police also detained TV actor Zhang Bo on suspected methamphetamine offences in a separate action but the report didn’t say when the detention occurred.

The actions followed the prosecution of Jaycee Chan, the son of action star Jackie Chan, who pleaded guilty in January to providing a place for others to use marijuana. Taiwanese actor Ko Kai was swept up in the same police action last year.

Chan served a six-month prison sentence and was released last month. Ko admitted to using marijuana and served a 14-day sentence.

In October, Chinese authorities ordered television stations, cinemas, online entertainment sites and other outlets not to show works by entertainers found to have been involved in crimes such as using drugs or visiting prostitutes.
