UPDATE: The homeowner says she was put something in her kiln overnight, which was likely the cause of the fire.

PENTICTON — What looked like fully engulfed house fire, turned out to be a garage up in flames. It happened in Penticton at 4:30 am Friday morning. When crews arrived on scene, they could see flames shooting from the building.

“It was a two car garage with a loft studio above it, detached from the home,” says Deputy Fire Chief, Dave Spalding. “We were able to knock it down quickly and were mopping up within 30 minutes of being on scene.”

No one was inside the garage when the fire started and while crews are still investigating, they believe it was accidental. Spalding says it started on the outside of the garage, in the area of where a working kiln is.

The fire was contained before spreading to the house on the property. The homeowners have insurance.
