HALIFAX – The Dalhousie University dentistry student who blew the whistle on a controversial Facebook group will be allowed to return to clinic duty.
The university announced Friday that Ryan Millet could resume his studies under a number of conditions following a review by an academic standards committee.
Millet was one of 13 students from the dentistry school suspended after misogynistic and violent comments about their female classmates were discovered on a Facebook group late last year.
In a letter emailed to Global News on Friday, Millet’s lawyer Bruce MacIntosh said Millet’s return to the clinic is predicated on his acknowledgement of guilt by way of initiatives including private counselling, written essays and public lectures.
“Ryan has not yet had a chance to digest the implications of this ruling,” MacIntosh wrote. “He must now consider his legal options.”
He added that Millet would not respond to media inquiries until he “has fully considered his predicament.”
The other 12 students elected to participate in a restorative justice process and the school lifted their suspensions on Monday. The group of students had earlier that day expressed remorse in an open letter to the community.
