UPDATE: All freezing rain warnings mentioned in this story have ended.
SASKATOON – A freezing rain warning is in place for Saskatoon and area. The warning extends west across central Saskatchewan to the Alberta border.
Environment Canada says portions of the northern grainbelt will receive freezing rain Friday morning as a low pressure system moves in from Alberta. The agency says snow or ice pellets may be mixed with freezing rain at times.
Mounties are dealing with multiple collisions due to the freezing rain. Police say a semi is currently blocking Highway 303, there was a single vehicle rollover near Lashburn and a two-vehicle crash near Marshall.
No serious injuries have been reported.
Highways 16, 303, 21, 17 and numerous grid roads are currently ice covered. Travel is not recommended on many roads and police say motorists should check the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline before heading out.
The precipitation is expected to turn into rain or move out of the area by late morning as temperatures rise.
