Last issue of FFWD Weekly hits Calgary newsstands

CALGARY – The last issue of FFWD Weekly hit newsstands in Calgary on Thursday.

Staff announced the closure of the publication earlier this month, blaming it on a lack of ad dollars.

FFWD was started in 1995 and became popular due to its focus on the city’s arts and culture.

“We really did try to cover things you wouldn’t see on TV or in the Herald or the Sun… and had a really strong focus on the arts scene,” says Publisher and Editor Drew Anderson.

The free paper was distributed every Thursday throughout Calgary, Canmore and Banff.

“It’s the kind of paper that everyone’s always read when they’re waiting for their friends at the bar or waiting for a band to start,” says Music and Screen Editor Josiah Hughes.

The paper will still be published online, but it’s not clear how long that will continue.
