KELOWNA – It’s been running for seven decades in Kelowna and now the Across the Lake Swim event is recognized as one of the best in the world. The event recently made it onto Openwaterpedia’s top 100 list for the first time, debuting at number 15.
“We now have world recognition,” says Mark Fromberg, President of the Across the Lake Swim Society. “Our team has worked very hard to build a safe, fun, family event and it feels great to be recognized by Openwaterpedia as one of the top open water swims in the world.”
According to Openwaterpedia’s website, it is essentially like Wikipedia for the open water swimming world as “a unique, comprehensive, multi-lingual online reference and research tool for the endurance sports and aquatic community.”
He says history, uniqueness, popularity, difficulty, attention to safety and geographic distribution are the criteria considered for making the list. This year’s swim is set for Saturday, July 18. Click here for more information.
