WATCH ABOVE: Joseph Colangelo’s luge track has gone viral and there’s a good reason why – it’s awesome. Scott Rapoport reports.
The coolest father in the world could be living in New Jersey, after reports emerged of a man building an epic luge track in his yard for his three kids to enjoy during the winter.
Cranford resident Joseph Colangelo’s idea started off small but soon took on a life of its own.
“At the beginning of the month, it was just a small sledding hill, and then I had to build up a little wall to stop the kids from going into the trees and then another so they wouldn’t crash into the house,” Colangelo told NJ.com. “I started to get obsessed and kept adding to it to make it better.”
By the time it was done, the luge track measured 55 feet long. It runs down one side of Colangelo’s home and wraps up near the garage.
Happy with the result, he posted a video recording of a run on YouTube, which has now been viewed over one million times.

But people on social media aren’t the only ones impressed. His neighbours are raising their eyebrows too.
“It’s excellent. I can’t believe he had such dedication,” Heather Priestley said in a CBS report.
To keep the track frozen, Colangelo routinely opens his bathroom window and sprays water outside using a shower head. It’s a little bit of work, for a big reward.
“We were out there for four hours the other day, and it was probably the best day of my life,” Colangelo added. “People are calling me an awesome dad, and I’ve never felt so good about a compliment. If there’s one thing I want to do right in this life it’s be an awesome dad.”
He might be an awesome dad – and he’s certainly charitable. Colangelo is using this viral opportunity to shed light on homeless youth.
“Those with homes and loving parents are the lucky ones,” he said in the YouTube video’s description. “Please consider supporting homeless youth through Covenant House.”
