TORONTO – Canadian actor Dean McDermott and the TV series Chopped Canada are cutting ties.

In a posting on Instagram, McDermott says he will no longer be host of the culinary competition show.

And in a statement, Shaw Media says McDermott will leave upon completion of season 2, which began Jan. 10 on Food Network Canada.

McDermott didn’t give a reason for the split, but said he’s leaving “with a heavy heart.”

He also thanked the “great crew, judges and chefs” as well as Food Network Canada.

He ended the post with the words: “Onward and upward.”

McDermott also hosted the first season of the show, in which chefs cook dishes using mystery ingredients in an effort to win $10,000.

He entered season 2 amid much-publicized tensions in his personal life with actress-wife Tori Spelling, his co-star of several reality shows.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Dean on this series and we thank him for his passion and enthusiasm throughout two successful seasons,” said the statement issued on behalf of Christine Shipton, senior vice president of content at Shaw Media.
