WATCH: Fishermen catch nearly 10 foot long great white shark in Florida

Friends Gabriel Smeby, Derrick Keeny and Kyle Register never thought they would ever see the day when a great white shark was caught right off the shore, until it happened to them.

Early Sunday morning, the crew that make up Dark Side Sharkers reeled in a great white measuring in at nine-feet and eight-and-a-half inches on Panama City Beach in Florida.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

They claim they are the first to ever make a land-based great white shark catch, although the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says a similar catch has been made before.

The men say they had to wrestle with the shark for nearly an hour to bring it onto shore.

They tagged the shark and released it after taking a few snapshots with what Keeny says is probably a once in a lifetime catch.

According to their Facebook page, Dark Side Sharkers say their goal is to support the practice of CPR: catch, picture, release.
