WATCH: Man transports million dollar mansion across North Dakota

One huge load is making its way across North Dakota.

A 218 tonne house was transported over 22 kilometres from Fargo to the nearby town of Horace because the land the million dollar mansion was originally built on is being used to create a flood diversion.

Scott Adelman bought the house at a steep 93 per cent discount, only paying $70,000 for the 4,500-square-foot home. His company specializes in relocating and “recycling” houses.

“It’s quite the project to just get it moved,” Adelman told KVLY.

The haul required four moving companies to co-ordinate with each other, a 23 axel truck, and a coterie of officials and experts to help make it a safe move.

Adelman and the crew had to figure out how to get around obstacles such as traffic lights. But the hardest part, according to Adelman, was getting all the required permits.

“The Department of Transportation has to be involved, the city of Fargo, Stanley Township, and Horace. So as far as that goes, the permitting process has been the biggest part,” said Adelman.

According to the Washington Post, the haul made less than five kilometres progress on Monday.

The five bedroom brick house will be placed on top of a new foundation and once all the wiring and plumbing is complete, the house will be move-in ready in five weeks.

The house is expected to be listed at around $700,000.
