WINNIPEG – Parts of Manitoba will dip into a deep freeze Tuesday night.
Environment Canada issued the warning Tuesday afternoon for portions of southwest Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Temperatures are expected to fall as low as -30 C Tuesday night. Shortly after midnight 15 km/h winds will make it feel like -40 C or colder.
Conditions are expected to get better by late Wednesday morning as the cold air moves off to the east.
An arctic high pressure ridge building into the eastern prairies is the cause of the dipping temperatures.
The affected areas are:
Brandon, Carberry, Treherne
Killarney, Pilot Mound, Mantiou
Melita, Boissevain, Turtle Mountain Provincial Park
Minnedosa, Neepawa, Russell, Riding Mountain national Park
Virden, Souris
Winnipeg:
While southwestern Manitoba is under the extreme cold warning, cold weather is still on the way for Winnipeg Tuesday night.
The city faces a low of -24 C but 30 km/h winds coming in from the northwest will make it feel like -34 C. It’s expected to warm up by Wednesday with a high of -15 C but the strong winds will make it feel like -36 C for the morning and -27 C later in the afternoon.
