Tinder users over 30 to pay twice as much for new premium service

WATCH ABOVE: Tinder has introduced a new paid premium service called ‘Tinder Plus’ for those looking for love.

TORONTO – You’re never too old to find the love of your life – but it might cost you more, if you’re looking for love on Tinder.

The popular dating and hookup app has launched a new paid premium service, but the cost varies on how old you are. Users under 30 will pay $9.99 per month, but those 30 and older will pay $19.99 for the same service, according to the company.

The service – dubbed Tinder Plus – gives users access to two new features, Passport and Rewind, and revamps the way users can like each other’s profiles.

According to Tinder’s blog, the service will give paying users “unlimited liking capabilities” – which means non-paying users will see a limitation on how many times they can like profiles. Previously, Tinder did not put any limits on how many times people could like each other’s profiles.

To find matches on Tinder, users swipe right on a picture to “like” it – if they swipe left they reject the match. If both users swipe right on each other’s pictures they are able to chat.

“Rewind” allows users to take back their last swipe – so if they regret their decision to swipe left, they can take it back.

Tinder is touting this feature as a way to make the experience more genuine.

“Tinder works best when swipes are genuine reflections of a user’s desire to connect,” reads the blog post. “Limitations on rewinding and right-swiping give users more incentive to make sure their swipes are honest.”

Because Tinder is location based, “Passport” allows users to change their current location to anywhere in the world so they can browse potential matches in the city they are visiting.

Tinder Plus will also be ad-free.

But users are not happy about the app’s age-based pricing.

According to reports, Tinder says the app’s pricing is based on “extensive” testing that showed younger users are excited about the app’s features, but need a lower price point because they are more “budget constrained.”
