SASKATOON – The third annual polar dip was held at the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market Saturday. Fourteen brave souls plunged into a pool of freezing cold water to raise money and awareness for child victims of human trafficking around the world.

So far, it has raised over $4,000, although organizers expect more money to come in. The 2014 event raised more than $3,000.

Polar dip participants say it was very cold but very worth it.

“I’m so blessed to be able to have opportunities like this,” said participant Jessica Harris.

“To fund raise and raise awareness for human trafficking, so I thought a moment of feeling cold or a little uncomfortable, if that could bring freedom to men and women and children in slavery then it is all worth it.”

The temperature was -17 with a wind chill of -26 during the event Saturday.

According to a recent United Nations report, more than 35 million people of all ages are being trafficked internationally each year. Organizers say trafficking even happens in Saskatoon, with young girls being forced into prostitution.
