Fire in Saskatoon home melts water line, extinguishes flames

SASKATOON – Saskatoon firefighters were called to a blaze Monday afternoon although plumbers would also have been suited for the job as well. Homeowners returned to their Nutana residence to find smoke in their basement and smoke alarms sounding.

They called the Saskatoon Fire Department at 2 p.m. which quickly responded to Poplar Crescent. Upon arrival, crews found water not fire.

Firefighters determined that a spark from a power tool ignited sawdust; however, the flames had melted a plastic water line which extinguished the fire.

Crews made sure the fire hadn’t spread and turned off the leaking water line.

The fire department estimates damage to be $50,000.
