TORONTO – SpaceX successfully launched two satellites — for two different customers — into space Sunday night.

The Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) and Boeing’s Eutelsat satellites shared a ride aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, lifting off at 10:50 p.m. from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Both of these satellites — built by Boeing — are electric, meaning that they are far lighter than their older counterparts which require heavier propulsion systems. It will take them several months to reach their final orbit.

After the launch, it was confirmed that both satellites had been successfully deployed.
