TORONTO – A quick-thinking skydive instructor came to the rescue after one of his students suffered a seizure and lost consciousness mid-jump.

Christopher Jones, 22, suffered a seizure during a jump in Australia last November.

“My arms go back and I roll onto my back and yeah basically for the next 30 seconds I’m in freefall and unconscious,” Jones told Australia’s Network Ten.

Video of the incident shows jump master Sheldon McFarlane swooping in, latching onto Jones as the pair plummeted towards the ground.

“I wasn’t really concerned about him hitting the ground without a parachute, but I wanted to get him underneath a parachute sooner than later,” McFarlane said.

McFarlane was able to pull his student’s ripcord and the parachute successfully deployed.

According to the Australian news station, Jones regained consciousness at 3,000 feet and was able to land safely.

The skydiving academy equips all jumpers with computer-activated parachutes that automatically deploy at a certain heights, just in case the skydiver is unable to pull the cord.
