WATCH: Good news for anyone who wants to get away for spring break. There are travel deals to be had this year. So what’s behind the bargains? As Elaine Yong reports, there are a number of factors at work.
Travel consultant Claire Newell says she hasn’t seen spring break flight prices at YVR this low since after the 2008 economic crash.
“There’s deals to China, to Mexico, to the Caribbean, there’s cruises available. Whatever you want to do, it’s there,” she says.
“I think the exchange rate has something to do with it, I also think the weather does…people are not looking as much for that hot getaway.”

The lower demand for flights hasn’t just impacted prices at YVR, but total flights from Bellingham. Alaska Airlines has reduced service between the airport to Las Vegas and Honolulu starting this summer.
