EDMONTON – A man is dead and two other people were taken to hospital after a collision on Highway 21 Wednesday morning.

Officers say around 10:37 a.m., a Chevrolet Avalanche pulling a small utility trailer hit a Pontiac Grand Am on Highway 21 just south of Township Road 522.

The RCMP says the driver of the Avalanche allegedly lost control heading south, crossed the centre line and collided with the northbound Grand Am.

A man who was a passenger in the Avalanche was pronounced dead on scene.

The 18-year-old driver was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The 50-year-old woman who was driving the Grand Am was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Highway 21 was still down to one lane of alternating traffic Wednesday afternoon. The RCMP said it was expected to reopen at 6 p.m. but delays would be expected until that time.
